When I first met Viktor in the late 1960s, it was a time when technology played little part in trading. We were both Eurobond traders working at different companies, but then the market was so small that everyone knew each other. Because of the lack of technology, we really only had the telephone to communicate; the market was totally opaque. If you were to conclude today that it must have been easy to make money in such an environment, you would be mistaken. Even then it depended solely on your wits and your understanding of what was happening in the market. The most important rule of the market was: “My word is my bond”. Unfortunately, today this rule is no longer commonly practised. Viktor and his sons have always stuck to the old rule and therefore have been able to build up a successful and longstanding family business, Bohler & Associates Ltd., which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. Bohler has developed invaluable, specialist knowledge as an advisory and execution brokerage as well as a strong reputation for being reliable and trustworthy. I wish Viktor and his company all the best for the future and that they continue to abide by the old rule: My word is my bond.
